Are you planning an all inclusive resort vacation to Cabo and considering Royal Solaris Los Cabos and Spa? You’ve come to the right place! My husband and I went there for our babymoon in January 2023 and have all the details for you!

I’ll break down all the specifics so you can make the best decision for your vacation, whether it’s for a babymoon, honeymoon, family vacation, or a solo adventure. I’ll also let you know why I think this resort is worth staying at.

So let’s get started!

Royal Solaris Los Cabos at night

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Overview

Royal Solaris Los Cabos is an all-inclusive beach resort in San Jose del Cabo in Baja California, Mexico. The property was built in 2001 and has 390 rooms. It’s family-friendly and has specific kid zones and also adult-only areas.

The resort is right on the beach and guests can walk right out to the water from the resort. You can also walk up and down the beach if you’d like since the beach itself is called Costa Azul Beach and is not owned by any particular resort.

Royal Solaris is a smaller resort that is shaped like a horseshoe, with the rooms and indoor amenities in the building complex and the pools and most recreational areas in the middle. This setup makes the resort easy and quick to get around.

I found that I could easily walk from our room to pretty much any other place in the resort in about 5 minutes or less. This was really nice in my opinion and I liked the size of the hotel. It wasn’t overwhelming or intimidating and it was pretty hard to get lost because you could always find signs to direct you to the different areas of the resort.

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Rooms

There are several different room types to choose from at Royal Solaris. We decided to go with the Deluxe City View Room. I thought it was nice and comfortable and had everything we needed. We are pretty easy to please and don’t need anything fancy, so I thought this option was perfect for us for the budget we had.

The Deluxe rooms (the city view, garden view, or ocean view) all have either 1 king bed or 2 double beds. These rooms come with all the standard amenities you would expect plus some other nice touches:

  • Mini fridge restocked daily with water, beer, and soda
  • Nice toiletries (lotion, shampoo, soap)
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Tea/coffee maker
  • Air conditioning
  • TV (although I found the channels a bit fickle and not many good options)
  • Safe box
  • Alarm clock
  • Daily turndown service (if requested)
  • Extra blankets
  • Closet with hangers
  • Magnified vanity mirror in the bathroom (I really liked this)
  • Hairdryer

Each room also has a little outside area. Since we were on the first floor, ours was a little patio with two chairs and a little table where we could sit out if we wanted. We didn’t really use this much since the room was facing another resort and didn’t have anything nice to look at, but the Deluxe rooms with the garden or ocean view would probably have a nice balcony with a pretty view.

There is also wifi available throughout the resort. We had good service in our room and throughout the hotel so we were very satisfied with the reach and the speed.

If you want an upgraded room, Royal Solaris also offers a Deluxe Ocean View Room with a jacuzzi. These rooms have the best views and are slightly larger in size.

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Amenities

For a smaller resort, I thought the amenities at Royal Solaris Los Cabos were pretty good.

To start off, there are 3 heated swimming pools. One of them is adults-only. This is where Sam and I spent most of our time, mostly because it was less crowded than the other areas.

pro tip:

We found that if we didn’t get out to the pools right away in the morning (which we never did – who wants to wake up early on vacation?), all the lounge chairs would be “claimed” already. It was often difficult to find two chairs next to each other, so we sometimes had to be separate until adjoining chairs would open up.

If you want to spend the day at the pool and want to be guaranteed to have chairs together, you’ll need to get out early (probably before 9am) and put your towel and another item (like sandals or a bag) on the chairs. This “claims” your spot.

In fact, we spent a lot of our time at the pools just relaxing, reading, and swimming. They were clean and well-maintained, and we enjoyed spending a lot of time there.

During the day, there would be activities out by the pool. Sometimes there would be music, sometimes there would be water aerobics, and sometimes there would be a staff member putting on a little performance and getting the kids and adults to participate. There’s also a water volleyball net set up in one section of the main pool.

There’s also an outdoor hot tub/jacuzzi next to the adult-only pool. Since I was pregnant, I didn’t take advantage of this, but when the temps cooled down a bit in the evening, I imagine this would be a great spot to relax.

For the kids, there’s a really nice mini water park with slides, a small pool, and lots of fun things to climb on. Even though we didn’t go with kids, I think this was a really nice area and we saw lots of families spending time here with the littlest kiddos. There’s also a Kids Club, which is an activity center for the kids with a little playground.

The grounds around the pools were very nicely maintained. There are flowers and bushes, and there’s even a really nice walkway that is lit up with gorgeous lights at night. This was one of my favorite places to walk when it got dark.

Royal Solaris also has a small fitness center, tennis and basketball courts, and a volleyball court in the sand. Sam went to the gym a few times (I was pretty lazy and didn’t really exercise on our trip) and he said that one day it was really crowded and the next day there was no one else around. He said it was pretty decent though and had the necessities.

The resort also has a tobacco shop, jewelry store, and a little gift shop that also sells the basics that you might have forgotten, like sunscreen, toothpaste, shampoos, etc. We ended up buying sunscreen at the resort because we couldn’t take the aerosol kind in our carry-ons, but be warned – anything you get there will be incredibly expensive. I think we paid almost $20 for sunscreen! But it’s nice to know it’s there in case you need anything.

While all the above amenities are included (except the shopping) there are a few things you can purchase at the resort. The spa and salon is a nice addition to Royal Solaris. Although I did not go here, I think I would have liked to have made a massage appointment if I had been able to.

Some other things you have to pay extra for include room service, babysitting, laundry, car rental, photo session, and excursions.

There are also daily activities and shows at the resort. I mentioned the pool activities, but Royal Solaris also has stretching and dance classes, a diving show, bingo, contests, and a nightly show at the theatre. There’s also karaoke at least one night of the week in the lobby area.

Overall, I thought the offered amenities were pretty good. We didn’t participate in many of them, but that’s just not our style. We wanted to see one of the nightly shows but found ourselves pretty tired by the end of the day and ended up skipping them. But it was nice to know there was some sort of entertainment available had we been in the mood for it.

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Restaurants & Bars

There are 5 restaurants at Royal Solaris plus several smaller walk-up eateries and snack bars scattered around the pool area of the resort.

For breakfast, there is one location, Cafe Solaris, the main buffet dining hall. There are SO many food choices that I didn’t feel disappointed that there was only one place to eat. You HAVE to go to the omelet station – I think I got one just about every morning – they were SO good!

If you are a member of the resort, you do have access to a special breakfast area, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out because we couldn’t go there.

For lunch, there were plenty of food choices. There is the lunch buffet, Rosmarinus, which has an international menu. You also have some other choices if you aren’t feeling the buffet. There’s the snack bar, which has hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, and some other quick foods you can grab.

There’s also a pizzeria, which is where I went most of the time for lunch. They make the pizza right when you order, and the line was often pretty long, but they were so good it was always worth it. If you like sushi, there’s also a little spot next to the beach that has some pretty good sushi (according to Sam).

For dinner, you have several options, most of which require a reservation (more on that below). If you didn’t want or get a reservation, you can go to Cafe Solaris for dinner and have the buffet there. The theme changes every night, but the few nights we went there I thought the food was pretty decent.

There are three restaurants that require reservations and have a dress code, and we tried them all when we visited. The first one is Pancho’s, which is a Mexican-themed restaurant. The second is an oriental restaurant that features Japanese, Chinese, and Thai. The third is Marco Polo, which is arguably the fanciest, and also has a rotating menu.

I thought all 3 of the reservation restaurants were good. Keep in mind, the menus are small and only have a few options, so if you are a picky eater, you might want to check the menus ahead of time to see if you’ll like what they offer. But Sam and I like to try new things, and I thought all the choices were great.

It’s also a good thing to know that if you have a big appetite, you might not be full after dinner at one of these places. I think there were two nights that Sam needed a little something extra after our meal, so we went into the buffet and he had a little more to eat to fill him up. So keep this in mind too and choose a reservation time that would allow you to eat a little something before or after in case you need or want something additional.

Booking the reservations for the restaurants was pretty easy. Starting at 9:00 am on the day of, you’ll make a call to the operator and let them know what restaurant you want to eat at that night. They’ll give you the available times and you’ll pick your reservation and give your room number. Then you just show up! We never had any issues getting a reservation at the place we wanted, so it didn’t feel like a chore or stressful in any way.

As far as bars, there are 4 scattered throughout the resort. There’s a lobby bar, which also serves coffee in the morning and stays open pretty late. There’s also a sports bar and a swim-up bar at the pool. Since it’s all-inclusive, you can get pretty much anything you want to drink.

Since I couldn’t drink any alcohol on this trip, I was worried I’d feel like I was missing out, but truthfully, I didn’t really care that much. I’m not much of a drinker to begin with, but the bars made some pretty good virgin drinks for me all week, and there’s also juice and sodas to pick from, so I didn’t feel like I only had water as an option.

Boat tour in Cabo San Lucas

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Excursions

If you don’t want to spend all your time at the resort, you can book an excursion or two right in the Royal Solaris lobby. There are options like whale watching, ziplining, riding ATVs, and much more.

I find this to be the easiest option simply because they can schedule transportation for you and help you plan your day. We ended up booking a sightseeing and snorkeling tour that also allowed us to see some whales. We had a great time and didn’t have to stress about any part of it.

However, if you want to find a cheaper option, or maybe want to plan a whole day out that also includes shopping and visiting several locations that aren’t available to book at the resort, you can use Viator to find the perfect option for you.

Royal Solaris Los Cabos Observations

Since this was only our second all-inclusive (our first was in St. Lucia) we didn’t have a lot to compare this resort to. However, I would say that for a mid-range, smaller all-inclusive, Royal Solaris Los Cabos is a great choice.

We did this for our babymoon and I think this was a great place to relax and take it easy. If we had stayed at a resort that had a lot of things to do, I probably would have felt like I was missing out because I wasn’t really in the mood to do a lot. All I really wanted to do was relax, read my book, eat good food, and enjoy the atmosphere.

That being said, I also think this would be a good resort for families. The kid areas were really nice and there seemed like a ton to do for them. There were a lot of families there with kids of all ages. Many of the rooms can be joined together (meaning there’s a door between two separate rooms) so families with older kids can separate and have their own space but still be able to go back and forth easily and share the facilities.

I found the resort was well-maintained and clean. I had no complaints about the cleanliness and everything was updated and in good shape. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we never had a bad experience with anyone there.

Overall the food was decent. The buffet food was pretty standard and nothing amazing but it was good and there was a solid variety. I think anyone, no matter how picky, would be able to find things to eat without feeling deprived.

Dinner at Marco Polo

The restaurants that required reservations definitely had the best food. As I mentioned earlier, the meals weren’t large, but the food was well prepared and delicious. I found it plenty filling for myself and liked everything I got.

Since I was pregnant, I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to eat or drink certain things because of the fear of getting sick from the water. However, the entire resort, even the water from the sinks and shower, is filtered, and all the food is prepared with safe water, so I could eat fresh fruit and veggies without being afraid of getting sick and could have ice in my drinks. This was a huge relief for me and neither of us got sick at all. I would consider this a huge plus for this resort.

Beach at Royal Solaris Los Cabos

With that being said, you can definitely put your feet in the water and still enjoy the beach, but if you really want to swim in the ocean, you should stay in another part of Cabo, probably Cabo San Lucas, where the ocean is safer for swimming.

How far is Royal Solaris Los Cabos from the airport?

Royal Solaris Los Cabos is about a 20-minute drive from Los Cabos International Airport.

When was Royal Solaris Los Cabos built?

Royal Solaris Los Cabos was built in 2001.

Is Royal Solaris a timeshare?

While Royal Solaris does offer a timeshare option, you do not have to be a part of the timeshare to stay here. There are certain areas of the resort that are open to members only, but I did not personally feel like I was missing out because I could not go to these areas.

If you really like the resort and want to become a member, you can talk to the staff and they can sign you up for a presentation to show you the perks of membership and offer you a timeshare as well.

Does Royal Solaris have an airport shuttle?

Royal Solaris does have an airport shuttle but extra fees do apply. You can contact the resort to set up the shuttle at least 72 hours in advance.

There are also other companies that offer shuttles from the airport to the resort. Calypso Trip is a great, highly-rated company that will pick you up right outside the airport and take you directly to your hotel. This is a much better and quicker option than fighting with the masses for a taxi at the airport.

Conclusion: Royal Solaris Los Cabos Review

Royal Solaris Los Cabos is a nice all-inclusive resort in San Jose del Cabo. I would recommend this place as a great option for couples or families who have a mid-range budget and want a more laid-back experience.
